Chicago sewerage records, 1865.

The city of Chicago obtained permission from the State of Illinois to lower the Illinois and Michigan Canal summit level to ensure sufficient sewerage flow from Lake Michigan through the canal to the Des Plaines River (1865), and this volume records canal's physical changes due to the lower summit level.
